Your woodworking plans call for holes to be drilled in pieces of stock. You could use a power drill or cordless drill, but it's often difficult to keep a handheld drill steady, especially when drilling at an angle. So if precision is a concern, or if you have large-diameter holes to drill, you should consider using a drill press. With the right set-up you can preset the depth of your hole and cut numerous holes at the same depth consistently. With the right attachments, a drill press can also serve as a mortise machine, a spindle sander, or a pocket hole machine. Given their versatility and relatively low cost, a benchtop or full-size drill press is an excellent investment for any shop. Bench-top drill presses are ideal for any use. Their size makes them ideal to mount directly to a workbench, take to a jobsite, or mount on their own stands.
